The Public Relations Society of America is the largest public relations organization in the world, with more than 22,000 members nationwide. The Western District is one of 10 regions established by PRSA and covers 11 chapters in five western states including Arizona, Colorado, Hawaii, Southern California, and Southern Nevada comprising more than 2,200 members.
PRSA’s Western District is a unified voice for the interests of membership throughout the region to the national office, addressing issues of common interest. These regional groupings of chapters provide support, shared resources, and leadership cultivation for the next generation of professionals to lead the association and serve as advocates for the profession.
The District is managed by its own board of directors, which elects its officers each year at a meeting during the PRSA International Conference. The remaining Board members are representatives of the 11 member chapters within the District. Representatives typically include incoming, current or past chapter presidents, but all Assembly Delegates and PRSA members within the District are invited to participate, although each chapter receives one vote.
The Board meets monthly by conference call with the exception of our two in-person meetings each year – one at the Western District Conference (traditionally in April or May) and one at the International Conference (traditionally in October or November).
Our goal of the Western District is to celebrate and promote leadership, network and advance the public relations profession, build relationships with our chapters, and create organizational strength by consistently refining and honing our training, networking activities, events, and board meetings which share best practices.
How We Connect & Grow
The Western District is a critical bridge between national and local chapters. Our monthly affinity meetings focus on developing leadership, sharing best practices, and communicating change occurring at the national level to ensure our local chapters are supported and growing.
Our awards program honors a finalist from each of the Western District’s member chapters and awards a Platinum Award to a public relations campaign or program that is then designated “The Best in the West” and names one volunteer as the recipient of the Individual Service Award.
Western District Conference
Our low-cost, annual two-day regional conference offers excellent programming by quality trainers, networking opportunities, and celebration of excellence work and service via our Platinum Awards. This event moves throughout the district and is hosted at a different chapter every year.
The Western District hosts an annual PRSA Leadership Development seminar to train and energize current and future leaders of PRSA. Attendees typically include those looking at officer positions at the local and regional level to further develop leadership skills. Ultimately, the goal is to continually recruit and develop candidates for PRSA’s National Board of Directors.
Student Mixer at International Conferences
The Western District offers a networking event open to all Western District PRSA/PRSSA members to foster relationships across the region. This is a great opportunity for PRSSA members to mix with PR professionals in a casual setting. It’s also a great way for seasoned pros to connect with students looking for mentorship.
