Thank you to everyone who attended the PRSA San Diego/Imperial Counties 1st Annual PR Pride Mixer on July 20.
We were graciously hosted by the Diversionary Theater, the third oldest LGBTQ+ theater in the country. It was important for us to host this event for many reasons.
First, we felt it was important to recognize that our chapter has met an important diversity and inclusion milestone: we have four members of our board that identify as LGBTQ+. During Pride Month, officially recognized in the month of June, each of those board members explained what Pride means to them as PR pros. Second, San Diego’s Pride month is officially observed in July (did you know the Pride Parade is San Diego’s largest civic event?), so we opted to organize our first-ever official mixer at an LGBTQ+ owned establishment to celebrate our Pride and to appreciate the allies in our PR industry. Finally, it was also our way of showcasing that PRSA San Diego/Imperial Counties aims to be a safe space for all. We have a Diversity Committment and events like this are geared to living out this core value.
It was a fantastic event, where we did what we do best… network.
As we grow our membership and continue to achieve our own goals and milestones for D&I committee invites you to look into our Summer Series of events, “Your Next Move,” where we will continue to bring some “out-of-the-box” networking and growth opportunities.
This series is a career-mobility series for communicators and creatives in the San Diego, Imperial County and Tijuana regions.
